FarSounder's Technology Overview
FarSounder's products and technology are fundamentally different from any competing system on the market. While there are relatively established players in the sonar area, they are all selling conventional 1D and 2D systems, which can be forward-looking, but are not capable of providing depth information at navigationally useful ranges for a wide field-of-view..
The entire volume-of-interest shown here is collected on every ping. FarSounder systems do not mechanically scan in order to build a 3D image. No moving parts means less maintenence, more reliability and better performance.
FarSounder has several important differentiators:
- FarSounder's systems are true 3D – they provide range, bearing and depth. This is particularly important in shallow water, where the seabed itself becomes an object on the sonar display. FarSounder’s systems give navigationally important information to mariners – allowing them to discern the bottom from other objects around them.
- FarSounder’s systems are real-time – they provide new images every 2 seconds.
- The resolution provided by FarSounder’s products is dramatically better than the competitors, thus making the information easier to read and shortening response time.
