FarSounder and Tocaro Blue Announce an Integration Delivering Enhanced Marine Navigation
FarSounder has expanded the capabilities of its Argos Forward Looking Navigation Sonar (FLS) with an integration with Tocaro Blue’s ProteusCore™ software. This new integration brings AI-powered Radar perception to FarSounder’s SonaSoft™ Lt navigation software, delivering even greater situational awareness for users navigating challenging marine environments.

FarSounder’s Argos 3D FLS systems are designed to help mariners see ahead beneath the waterline, providing real-time information about the seafloor and the water column. Argos FLS delivers a continuously updated 3D view enabling safer navigation in poorly charted waters, shallow coastlines, and many changing environments. Trusted by unmanned vessels, expedition cruise ships, superyachts, commercial operators, and government vessels worldwide, the technology enhances navigational confidence and supports informed decision-making with real-time data.
ProteusCore transforms marine Radar into an intelligent perception sensor capable of detecting, classifying, and tracking objects to support vessel control, collision avoidance, and safer navigation. The system uses machine learning models trained on more than three million Radar frames to improve target detection and environmental awareness. One key feature of ProteusCore is Autofocus, which automatically tunes Radar settings such as range and gain based on sea and weather conditions, eliminating much of the manual adjustment required by traditional Radar systems.
“Farsounder leads the industry with their Argos 3D FLS product line, and adopting ProteusCore™ is a natural fit to give mariners enhanced situational awareness,” said John Minor, CEO of Tocaro Blue. “We're thrilled to bring FarSounder customers a modern Radar experience, powered by ProteusCore!”
By integrating ProteusCore’s AI-driven Radar processing with FarSounder’s Argos 3D FLS, operators gain a more comprehensive understanding of both surface and subsurface hazards within a single display. The combined solution enables users to classify vessels, including non-AIS targets, while also identifying buoys, shorelines, and underwater obstacles ahead of the vessel. This fusion of above- and below-water situational awareness supports more informed navigation decisions, particularly in congested, low-visibility, and unfamiliar or uncharted operating areas.
“Today’s mariners expect systems that integrate seamlessly and present critical information clearly,” said Matthew Zimmerman. “Together, ProteusCore and Argos 3D forward-looking sonar technology provide operators with unprecedented awareness when navigating in challenging marine environments.”
At FarSounder, we believe in pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the exploration of the world’s oceans and waterways. We do this by developing innovative products that do more than just help vessels get safely from point A to point B. We make a difference by being environmentally conscious by creating products that reduce the impact on the ecosystem.
For 25 years, we have dedicated ourselves to tackling new ideas and developing 3D Forward Looking Navigation Sonar technology (3D FLS). Our unique patented technology paints a clear picture of what lies ahead underwater and along the bottom, reducing the likelihood of collisions, which in turn prevents costly damage to property, the environment, and marine and human lives alike.
Our navigation systems are globally recognized. The Argos 1000, Argos 500, and Argos 350 are able to provide customers with a whole suite of sophisticated navigation capabilities of interest to many types of vessels. Wherever you decide to go, FarSounder will help get you there safely.
