Don’t Leave Port Without It

Collisions and groundings cause vessel owners from $2 to $3 billion damage annually. Captains of yachts, tugs, towboats and barges are often confronted with hazards, such as:

  • Nighttime navigation in unfamiliar harbors
  • Submerged shipping containers in open waters
  • Coral reefs in the Caribbean
  • Whales and other marine mammals
  • Coastal ledge at sea or in the Great Lakes

Now you can help avoid these and other dangers and obstacles with the FarSounder FS-3 forward-looking, three-dimensional (3-D) sonar. It’s the ideal solution for boats ranging in length from 70’–200’. It’s unsurpassed in helping you navigate shallow waters — where the dangers lie.

3D Sonar Power — On Every Ping!

Finally there is a forward looking sonar that combines a wide field of view, 3-D image, complete update on a single ping and operates at full range even in shallow water. The FS-3 delivers the three critical readings required for obstacle avoidance: range, bearing, and depth. Two-dimensional (2-D) sonars only provide range and bearing, or depth and ange. Even dual 2-D systems are often confused in situations involving multiple obstacles. They may alert you to an object that lies ahead, but these 2-D systems can’t tell you if you have enough water below your keel to pass safely.

The FarSounder FS-3 generates a high resolution, full color, 90° field-of-view scan with each ping, every 2–3 seconds — unlike most systems that need up to several minutes and many pings to complete a large field-of-view image.

Breaking the Water Depth Barrier

In shallow water, where the range of 1-D and 2-D sonars are limited, the FS-3 with its unique transducer, true 3-D real time electronics and patent pending software algorithms provides distance and bearing of obstacles at full range. At 8 water depths, the FS-3 has more than twice the capabilities of other sonar systems.

Adaptive Sonification: Good for You, Good for Sea Mammals

The FarSounder FS-3 operates at frequencies well above the hearing range of whales. The FS-3 sound levels and click rates are quieter than those of the bottlenose dolphin. The FS-3 operates at 60kHz. Through “adaptive sonification,” the system automatically raises and lowers sound levels depending on sea-states and the distance to objects.
