Full Time Marine Electronics Technician Position in Warwick, RI

FarSounder needs experienced, outgoing, electronically and mechanically savvy individuals for Electronics and Marine Technician positions to complement our team. We are a small, growing marine electronics manufacturing and development company located in Warwick, Rhode Island. We have produced a new kind of 3D marine sonar and have been in business since 2001. Our products are now found in all oceans of the world, and we believe we are revolutionizing marine navigation just as GPS and Radar did in the past. Development projects at FarSounder cover a broad range of topics.

FarSounder is a hands-on environment. You will be working on products and have the satisfaction of seeing your work operate on vessels all around the world. The right person will be familiar with interpreting engineering drawings and schematics, wiring circuits, and be proficient with analog, digital and microprocessor-based circuitry.

This position includes both In-house and Field Service Work such as:

  • supporting manufacturing and R&D to build, test, troubleshoot, repair, and modify production and developmental electronic components, parts, equipment, and complete systems, while applying principles and theories of electronics, electrical circuitry, engineering mathematics, electronic and electrical testing, and physics.
  • participating in field service globally.
  • conducting functional, operational, environmental, and life tests to evaluate performance and reliability of production model, analyze and interpret test data, calibrate components, modify circuitry, and record effects on unit performance.
  • writing technical reports and developing charts, graphs, and schematics to describe and illustrate system's operating characteristics, malfunctions, deviations from design specifications, and functional limitations for consideration by engineers.
  • operating bench lathes, drills, or other machine tools to fabricate parts, such as terminal boards, test apparatus, and chassis.
  • participating in local field work including day-long boat trips for at-sea testing.

Field Service Responsibilities include extensive global travel to set-up and commission systems, initially accompanying trained personnel. Desire to travel and ability to commit to last minute travel obligations is required. This job requires extensive travel (~25%) and offers you the opportunity to travel to exotic locations to visit with customers' vessels and participate in system commissioning and/or service. Past destinations have included: Japan, France, Monaco, Germany, Vancouver, the Netherlands, Croatia, Singapore, and New Orleans.

Skills: Required

  • Formal electronics training or education
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
  • Able to work in groups, as well as independently
  • Available for an in-person interview in Rhode Island
  • Permanent legal right to work in the United States
  • Smart, personable, self-starter
  • Ability and desire to travel independently to global locations

Skills: Preferred

  • Associates Degree or equivalent
  • Experience with marine systems
  • Eligible for security clearance
